Jean Miller

Main Lesson and Main Lesson Books

Jean is the mother of three spirited, self-directed children and has been homeschooling inspired by Waldorf education for almost 20 years. Jean has a Master of Arts in Teaching and a BA in English; she has taught in public and private schools, tutored and homeschooled. Over the years, Jean has worked with several Waldorf-inspired groups including Bridgeways, a small homeschool group; Cedar Creek Community School, an attempted charter school initiative; and Rainbow’s Edge, a cooperative grades group.
Jean’s knowledge of Waldorf education comes from attending workshops, extensive reading, as well as planning and implementing many, many lessons. For the past six summers, Jean has been one of the presenters at the Taproot Teacher Training, organized by Barbara Dewey of Waldorf Without Walls, where parents and teachers from all over the country create a community in an intense four days of exploring Waldorf education together. Jean is also a Certified Simplicity Parenting Coach, work based on the book Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne. In her coaching, Jean helps parents get in touch with their core values and create small, doable changes in line with those values. Jean finds personal inspiration from nature walks, poetry, and the creative arts. Her meditation takes the form of singing with her women’s group, Heartsong.
